Step three: handover and care
A new floor looks its best when it is looked after the right way. At handover we walk you through the finished work and explain how to care for it.

Keeping spare material
Ask us about leftover material. A few spare tiles, planks or offcuts from the original batch are very useful for future repairs, because colour and pattern can vary between batches. Store them flat, dry and out of direct sun.
The walk-through
When the floor is done, we go through the site with you. We show you the finished rooms, the edges and the transitions, and we answer questions on the spot.
If you spot anything that is not right, tell us during the walk-through so it can be looked at promptly.
Giving the floor time
New floors need a little patience. Adhesives take time to cure, so keep heavy traffic and rolling loads off the floor until we say it is ready. We tell you how long to wait for the product we have used.
Avoid washing a freshly laid resilient floor straight away. A short rest period lets joins and glue settle.
Everyday care for vinyl
Dirt and grit scratch floors, so most of the work is keeping them off the surface.
- Sweep or vacuum regularly, especially near entrances.
- Mop with a neutral cleaner suited to resilient floors.
- Wipe up spills when they happen.
- Use mats at doors to catch grit and moisture.
- Fit soft protectors under chair and table legs.
- Avoid harsh solvents and strong abrasives.
Everyday care for carpet
Vacuum often, because dry soil does the most damage to carpet fibres. Treat spots quickly by blotting, not rubbing. Rubbing pushes the stain deeper and can roughen the pile.
For carpet tile, a marked square can be lifted and swapped for a spare. We suggest you keep a few spare tiles from the job for this purpose.
Care for specialty floors
Safety, lab and sports floors have their own care needs. Rough surfaces need a stiffer brush, and sealed joins need to stay intact. We give you the maker's care notes for the exact product, so you follow the right method.
Staying in touch
If you have a question about your floor in the months that follow, get in touch. We would rather hear early than see a small issue turn into a bigger one.
