Luxury vinyl plank for commercial floors
Luxury vinyl plank copies the look of timber boards in a floor that handles water, wheels and heavy foot traffic. It is a common pick when a space needs warmth but cannot risk real timber.

What luxury vinyl plank is
Planks are often made with a rigid core or a flexible core. A rigid core resists dents from point loads and bridges small base flaws better. A flexible core follows the base more closely and is gentler on the feet. Your use of the room should steer that choice. Embossed surfaces add a touch of real grain, which hides small scratches and light scuffs between washes. Pattern variety matters too, since a range with many different plank faces looks more natural than one that repeats.
Luxury vinyl plank, often shortened to LVP, is a layered vinyl floor cut into long boards. A printed layer gives the grain and colour of timber. A clear wear layer on top protects that print from scuffs and scratches.
Commercial grades have a thicker wear layer than home products. That extra thickness is what lets the floor keep its look under trolleys, chairs and daily traffic.
Where it suits
Plank vinyl works in places where people want a warm, natural look but the floor will take a beating. Reception areas, open-plan offices, cafes, corridors and guest rooms are all typical.
- Water resistant, so spills and wet shoes do not harm the surface
- Comfortable underfoot compared with stone or tile
- Quieter than hard flooring when walked on
- Works over many existing floors once the base is made flat
How it is laid and cared for
Most commercial plank is glued down to the floor below. Some ranges click together and float, which can suit short fit-out timelines. In both cases the base must be dry, clean and flat, because planks show every bump beneath them.
Day to day upkeep is simple. Sweep or vacuum to remove grit, then damp mop with a neutral product. Felt pads under furniture legs stop dents and marks.
What to ask before choosing
A few questions help narrow the field before you look at colours.
- How much traffic will the area carry, and is it foot traffic or wheeled?
- What wear layer thickness and commercial rating does the range carry?
- Does the area need a slip rating for wet or entry zones?
- Is the base level, or does it need smoothing first?
- Do you want a glued or floating installation?

Questions
Is luxury vinyl plank waterproof?
The planks themselves resist water, so spills do not soak in. Water can still creep in through open edges, so the installation and sealing details matter in wet areas.
Can it be laid over an old floor?
Often yes, if the existing surface is sound, dry and flat enough. We check the base on site before we say it can stay.
How is it different from luxury vinyl tile?
The material is the same family. Planks are long and narrow like boards, while tiles are square or rectangular and often copy stone or concrete.
Can a damaged plank be replaced?
Yes. A single plank can be lifted and swapped, which is easier when spare stock from the same batch is kept.
