Step one: measure and plan

Careful measuring and a clear plan save time on site. This is where we learn about your space and set up the job to run smoothly.

Sharing the plan with you

Once the measuring and checks are done, we write the plan in clear terms and talk it through with you. If something needs to change, such as the floor type or the timing, this is the best moment to say so. Changes are simple now and harder once material is on site.

A visit to the site

Plans on paper only tell part of the story. Where we can, we walk the building, look at the floors as they are and see how the space is used.

We note stairs, lifts, loading access, columns, doorways and anything else that affects how material and people move through the job.

Measuring every room

We measure each room and work out how much material it needs. This is often called a take-off. It covers floor area, edges, trims, transitions and extra for cuts and waste.

Where you already have drawings, we check them against what we see on site. If they differ, we sort it out before ordering.

Checking the base

At the same visit we look at what is under the old floor, or on top of the slab. We check for damage, unevenness and signs of moisture. That tells us how much preparation the room will need.

Planning the order of work

A good plan answers practical questions early.

  • Which areas are done first, and which can wait?
  • Can the building stay open while we work, or do we need after-hours access?
  • How long does the base need to dry or cure?
  • When will materials arrive, and where are they stored?
  • Who else is on site, and when?

Choosing products together

If the floor type is not settled, we talk through the options. We explain how each one wears, how it feels underfoot and how it is cared for. Samples help, and we are happy to bring them to site so you can see them in the real light.

What you get from this step

You come away knowing what will be laid, in which order, and when. Then we move on to installation.

Tell us about your floors

Send the rooms, the floor you have now and your dates. We reply on the next business day.
