Commercial wall vinyl

Wall vinyl is a sheet covering for walls. It protects painted plaster from scuffs and moisture and matches the floor, so the whole room looks planned.

What wall vinyl is

Some wall vinyl is made to a heavier gauge to take impact from beds, trolleys and wheelchairs. Others add a protective layer that resists marks and the fading caused by strong washing agents. Rails and corner guards can be used with the vinyl in the highest-traffic spots. Choosing the weight early avoids a covering that is too light for the job. Samples are worth holding up against the wall, since light and colour change how a finish reads.

Wall vinyl is a thin, flexible vinyl sheet made to be fixed to a wall. It comes in plain colours, soft patterns and timber or stone looks. Heavier grades are made for impact, and lighter grades are for decoration and wipe-down.

Many ranges share colours with the floor vinyl from the same maker. That makes it easy to link floor, wall and coving in one finish.

Where it suits

Wall vinyl is helpful where walls get hit or splashed. Corridors with trolleys, clinical rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, school halls and change rooms are all good candidates.

  • Resists scuffs, knocks and splashes
  • Wipes down quickly and keeps its colour after repeated washing
  • Welded joins are available in wet areas
  • Colour matches to floor ranges from the same maker

How it is fixed and cared for

The wall must be dry, sound and smooth. Cracks are filled and loose paint is removed. The vinyl is cut to height, stuck with the adhesive the maker names, and rolled flat so no bubbles remain. Corners and edges are finished with trims.

Care is as simple as wiping with a mild solution and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, which can mark the surface.

What to ask before choosing

Settle these points early.

  • Will the wall face knocks from trolleys or chairs?
  • Is the area wet, and are welded joins needed?
  • Should the vinyl match a floor range?
  • How high should the covering run?
  • Is the wall surface sound enough to hold the adhesive?

Questions

Is wall vinyl the same as wallpaper?

No. It is a harder, wipeable covering made for commercial use, where wallpaper would mark or peel.

Can it go in a wet room?

Yes, with the right product and welded joins. Edges and corners need careful finishing to keep water out.

Can I match it to my floor?

Many makers offer wall ranges in the same colours as their floors. Tell us the floor you chose and we can look for a match.
